I have just read the sad news that foremost military historian of the mid-18th century Christopher Duffy has died, aged 86.
I’m sure I speak for a huge number of wargamers, soldiers and history enthusiasts alike when I say that he will be deeply missed.
He was one of the greatest inspirations for my love of the era and my passion for siege warfare in particular, and his Fire & Stone, The Fortress in the Age of Vauban and Frederick the Great 1660-1789 and The Military Experience in the Age of Reason in particular have always been within reach of my desk.
I know he made many friends around the world, and in the Seven Years War Assoviation in particular. My condolences to those that knew him and to his family. He leaves behind a proud legacy of the love of history.
Henry
