Battlechat 88 with Dr Spencer Jones

Spencer Jones may, in fact, be one of the most enthusiastic guests I’ve ever had on the show! Our recording of nearly two hours simply galloped past, as we discussed a wide range of topics from his interest in the First World War, to his experience as the President of the Guild of Battlefield Guides, his Masters by Research in artillery in the American Civil War, his love of greenskins in Warhammer Fantasy Battle and the boardgames about which he is passionate.

Not only is he Senior Lecturer in Armed Forces and War Studies at the University of Wolverhampton, a highly regarded military historian with an ever-expanding list of books to his name, but he is also friends with previous guest Professor Gary Sheffield who regularly faces him across the wargames table—indeed, we are uncovering a growing number of professional historians who are not averse to testing their tactical and strategic prowess on the tabletop!

So, relax and enjoy the journey, as the official historian of the Royal Artillery (yes, that as well!) tells us about his professional and hobby life.
