Jasper is the man behind Karwanseray Publishers, responsible for all those lovely magazines like Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy, Ancient Warfare (which he edits), Ancient History and Medieval Warfare. Located in Zutphen in the Netherlands, Jasper has an interesting take on the major events of the last couple of years, both inside and outside the hobby.
Running a small publishing company has been a real challenge as the effects of Brexit, Covid and the exit of the United States Postal Service (USPS) from the Universal Postal Union each took their toll on the logistics of keeping customers supplied with their favourite magazines, and Jasper reveals the behind-the-scenes struggle to overcome these challenges.
Like many of us, Jasper is grateful that he has had his hobby to maintain his mental health over the last couple of years, and we discover that online painting challenges have been a major factor in helping him to maintain his hobby momentum.
Finally, he reveals a major project that he is involved with, alongside our old friends at TooFatLardies, to commemorate the famous battle at Arnhem in September 1944. They plan to stage it at the Airborne Museum at Hartenstein and are busy in the planning and building stage—this promises to be worth a visit to the Netherlands!
Jasper is a lovely guy and something some of you may not realise is that he was really kind to me when my ownership of Battlegames magazine hit the buffers in November 2011. He is truly one of the gentlemen of the hobby.
