After trying to get this fellow onto the podcast for more than a year, I finally managed to corner Peter Berry at the Claymore show and ensure that we coordinated our calendars! I’m delighted to say that last night, we spent a very pleasant couple of hours chatting (albeit dealing with a few technical gremlins that have resulted in some mildly crackly passages, for which apologies in advance).
Peter has been a major figure in the wargames hobby for a long time, with a history in the industry that stretches back well before he launched Baccus 6mm, and has also indulged in re-enactment, which fed into his passion for the English Civil War. It may surprise some of you, however, to learn that he has equally strong leanings towards the 18th century and even had a large collection of Spencer Smith 30mm plastics!
Our conversation roamed far and wide and I hope that, as a result of this interview, you will come away with a more rounded impression of the man who almost single-handedly raised the profile not just of 6mm gaming, but of micro-gaming as a whole, bringing it in from the fringes of the hobby to take its fully deserved place in the mainstream of the hobby, where thousands of gamers now enjoy the smaller scales either exclusively, or alongside their other collections in different scales.
