The Google Earth image above shows where I’ll be on Sunday – will you be there too?
I don’t go to many shows these days, but the two Partizan shows on the outskirts of Newark in Nottinghamshire each year are the exception, not just because I get paid to report on the show and judge the games, but also because I find them to be crammed with the best looking games on the circuit and the friendliest people.
Yes, it’s the social aspect of Partizan that I really appreciate, the opportunity to catch up with old friends that I don’t get to see very often, to chew the wargaming cud, to see what the latest gaming trends are and the latest developments in terrain making, modelling and painting.
And, of course, there is always a terrific range of traders selling their wares and we wargamers, like kids in a sweet shop, are all too willing to hand over our money for figures, paints, buildings, mats and more.
I have other reasons for turning the trip into a long weekend affair, as I have old friends nearby that I also only get to see on the show weekends, so I extend my trip either side of the show to be with them. None of us are getting any younger, and I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that maintining relationships with loved ones is vitallly important.
So, if you’re coming to the show, do comment below and of course, if you see me in my bright red Battlegames T-shirt, do tap me on the shoulder and say hello. I always rack up thousands of steps on the day, so a moment easing the arthritic hips and knees will be very welcome!
Henry
