Paul and Sally Kerrison run a company with an instantly recognisable Unique Selling Point – hexagons! Their Hexon terrain has become a trademark with which they have been associated since the company first emerged in the mid 1990s.
Our interview is with Paul, who studied Three Dimensional Design at university, a skill which has stood him in good stead ever since! Moreover, his ability to create, make moulds for and cast miniatures led to him launching his own range of 12mm miniatures that have been delighting fans of small-scale figures for many years and which continues to expand.
One of the things I love about doing these podcasts is that it gives me the opportunity to quiz the movers and shakers of the hobby and delve behind the scenes, documentary style, into the hows and whys of the hidden processes that go on before the products we love hit the shelves, and Paul is extremely obliging in revealing just how those much-loved and durable hexes are produced, as well as the motivation for creating the 12mm Hordes and Heroes miniatures and rulesets.
We also get a chance to talk about their other remarkable achievement – a success story that Paul attributes entirely to the skills and efforts of wife Sally – in the form of the annual Hammerhead show, notable for its inclusion of participation games only, surrounded by a healthy selection of traders, which takes place in March in the same showground used by the two Partizan shows.
So, sit back, relax and enjoy this tour of one of the stalwart and hard-working companies on the circuit.
Henry
