For this Battlechat, I welcome to the show Marcus Cowper, MD of Osprey Publishing and a published author in his own right, with several historical titles to his name.
A graduate in Medieval History, and a man who has been known to shove toy soldiers around and roll dice in his youth, Marcus is the new face at the helm of this popular publisher that has been producing useful titles for wargamers and military modellers for no less than 50 years!
I can think of few wargamers who don’t have at least a handful of the well-known Men-at-Arms, Campaign or New Vanguard series books on their shelves and for some of us, they are almost constant companions on the painting table or beside us when we plan our gaming scenarios, select our armies or even undertake historical campaigns. I have a particular love of the beautiful Fortress series.
Osprey was recently taken over by Bloomsbury, a major player in the publishing industry, which has given Osprey greater security to plan projects well into the future. Osprey has also fully embraced digital publishing, both subjects that we touch upon in our discussion.
So, sit back and enjoy my exploration of the past, present and future of this marvellous ambassador for military history and the niche interests of hobbyists like us.
