Battlechat 28 with patron Simon Tonkiss

Simon is the man seen here, posing in front of the giant Day 2 Dahlia-Chindrastan game staged in Ayton 2018 (the defence of Fizzipop), a game in which he, commanding the forces of the Prunkländische Ostindische Kompanie, distinguished himself yet again, not only as an able commander, but also as an all-round good egg.

Indeed, my friendship with Simon has been heavily wrapped up in his participation in not only the Ayton games, but also the LAW forum where the idea for these events was hatched in the first place. Here, he is one of the core group of players whose enthusiasm to participate in my imaginary continent has resulted in me getting far more involved in world creation and mapmaking than might otherwise have been the case, for which I’m very grateful.

But in this show, we talk about far more than imagi-nations and old school gaming, though we do dwell there a while because of our revived interest in ancients as well as the 18th century, and Simon is a man who has broad tastes in gaming, encompassing fantasy and sci-fi as well as imagi-nations and shiny toy soldiers. I also probe his remarkably organised approach to painting miniatures, including the legendary Kanban plans! Simon is a blogger and you can see the results of his painstaking work there.

So, come and join us as we chew the wargaming cud for a couple of hours.
