I have just finished a two and a half hour conversation with prolific and popular rules writer Dave Brown, whose interests span everything from Napoleonics to the ACW to WWII—and, it turns out, a bit of ancients too!
We chatted about his well-known games General de Brigade, General d’Armée, Battlegroup Panzergrenadier, Guns at Gettysburg, Pickett’s Charge and his forthcoming WWI set, Battalion HQ, as well as all the things that have influenced his gaming over the years. Most of all, I’ve tried to get at why he writes his rules the way he does and what has informed his decisions about how his games should play.
