A Busy Time Ahead

Just a quick heads-up about what I’ve got in store for you over the next few days.

First of all, tomorrow evening (13th) I shall be interviewing none other than Peter Berry of Baccus 6mm on the Battlechat podcast. best know, of course, for his evangelism for wee wargames figures, Peter has actually been around in the hobby for a very long time and I intend to question him closely about his time before everything turned very small!

Then, on Thursday 15th, I shall be chin-wagging again with our very own Simon Tonkiss, the self-proclaimed “glacially slow” painter, though unless my eyes deceive me, his glacier has turned into a river lately! Who knew that global warming could have such positive results? I’m looking forward to this, because Simon and I go back a fair few years with our Ayton imagi-nation adventures, and now we are planning a Hyboria-style ancients campaign.

Then, on Saturday, I’m driving up to Newark in Notiinghamshire to report on another show, this time The Other Partizan at Newark Showground. I shall be taking photos, shooting video and, if things aren’t too busy, maybe even sneaking in a bit more podcasting. Either way, I’m sure it will be an enjoyable day as always and you’ll get the exclusive first sneak peek at my impressions.

Do things slow down next week? No, they do not, as next Wednesday I’m meeting up in Arundel for a casual chat with WSS article writer and 2mm supremo Mark Backhouse, where some photos may get taken, some brief video clips may be shot and so forth as we stroll in the environs of this famous Sussex castle town. Admittedly, tea and cake may also be consumed off-camera.

Enough? Nowhere near, because on Thursday 22nd I am interviewing well-known naval warfare expert and Age of Enlightenment gamer Angus Konstam for Battlechat. It’s going to be interesting having someone on the show whose primary interest lies at sea, rather than on land, and I will question him about his life as a writer on the remote Orkney Islands. Here’s hoping the Skype connection meets the north-south challenge!

Finally, in the last gasps of August, I shall be paying a visit to Lard Island for an event about which I can’t say too much just yet, but which will definitely involve a passion for history and a tendency to hilarity in equal measure as I take on the Welsh Wizard himself, poached temporarily from the clutches of the Meeples & Miniatures Show, Mr Michael Hobbs, in a couple of scenarios that I created for the forthcoming issue of WSS magazine and which I shall be reporting on in the next issue. Weather permitting, there may also be time for a stroll around the delights of the Roman city of Verulamium , better known these days as St Albans.

So, clear your diaries, because the second half of August looks set to be buzzing with activity here, and quite how I’ll fit it all in, I don’t know!

In addition to all this, I shall be cramming in a lot of ‘day job’ stuff as well, with work on doing book jackets and interiors, a catalogue for a new 54mm miniatures company and, oh, of course – finishing a certain book!

P.S. I know some of you are aware that Veteran Wargamer Jay Arnold and I had hoped to play a game of Commands & Colors Napoleonics live over YouTube at the weekend. Sadly, transatlantic technical gremlins put paid to that, but we will try again another time. Do let us know if you would be interested in watching live games, or even participating remotely, such as issuing orders to regiments/brigades/divisions whilst I just move troops on the table.

P.P.S. Do, by all meeans, let me know in the comments below if you have any questions you’d like me to put to Peter Berry, Angus Konstam or Simon Tonkiss and I’ll do my best to include them in the show.
