Here in the Loftwaffe, I’ve been doing my end-of-year assessment and it’s clear that deciding to breathe new life into my Gladius self-publishing brand was a good and timely move, with the income generated from Tabletop Battle Tactics, Martinstaat 1744 and now Shot, Steel & Stone just about offsetting the collapse in graphic design business. (The book jacket design market has been particularly affected by cheap online and AI-driven alternatives.)
As for Patreon, it’s been affected by a number of factors, including the inevitable competing priorities as the cost of living and price rises has hit both domestic and hobby spending, but also the rise of the UK £ against the US $, which means that I’ve been earning less from doing this, even though patron numbers have stayed much the same. C’est la vie!
However, I intend to keep plugging away, and whilst I have new challenges, such as providing you with video format as well as audio Battlechats, which is proving to be very labour intensive, there are also new opportunities, such as the chat facility via the app, which has led to a flurry of fun exchanges in recent weeks.
Finally, I was pleased to have notched up a few games—including a few victories—in 2023 alongside running a D&D campaign. The latter has now come to a close, freeing me up to give my attention to the imagi-nations ideas that have been sitting on the back burner for far too long. Watch this space…
