It’s always a pleasure to interview one of my patrons and on this occasion, the conversation spanned the globe because guest Jarryd Doyle was sitting in Brisbane, Australia whilst I steered the podcast starship here in Brighton & Hove!
Jarryd is one of my younger patrons and so it was fascinating to learn not just about the gaming scene down under (not that he gets to do much gaming, as you’ll hear), but also the very different route he has taken into the hobby compared to the ‘Airfix generation’ that I represent.
It’s also interesting to hear from somebody who is not an advocate of the big games that people like Ken Reilly and myself often advocate—and when you hear about Jarryd’s glacially slow production process, you’ll understand why!
Fans of Oldhammer and Bolt Action will be happy to hear that Jarryd is very much attuned to those games, but all of us will find many of his general comments about the hobby, and how we struggle to incorporate our hobby passion into the rest of our lives, highly apposite and the last part of the show includes a discussion on topics that I think most of us can relate to.
And finally, it’s possible that some of you may have seen Jarryd on a screen somewhere, as he’s also an accomplished actor!
Enjoy the show!
Henry
