Battlechat 106 with Gary Colman Audio

I was absolutely delighted to interview Dr Gary Colman (not Chapman, as I erroneously named him initially!) who has a fascinating background, not just as a roleplayer, but also as a medic in the British Special Forces and as a stand-up comedian!

But the primary reason for him coming on the show was to explain the work he does for Game Therapy UK, a charity carrying out evidence-based research that reveals the therapeutic benefits of tabletop gaming for a wide range of people, such as veterans suffering from PTSD, homeless people, individuals with autism and even those facing early onset dementia and end-of-life situations.

As you’ll hear, Gary is a witty and entertaining individual, as we’re also joined by his pet dog for a while!  We cover a lot of ground in the world of roleplay gaming in the late 1970s and early 1980s, as well as taking a deep dive into the scientific aspects of game-based therapy, taking in such concepts as neuroplasticity along the way. (See diagrams below.)

So, prepare to be fascinated by the work being done by Game Therapy UK and of course, follow the instructions to get in touch with him if you’d like to find out more or, indeed, help out!
