Now, here’s a man that probably most UK wargamers will have seen multiple times at shows, because Mike Whitaker must be one of the busiest guys in the hobby.
Well known for staging games with the Peterborough Wargames Club of which he has been Chairman for ten years, he also oversees the Hereward Wargames Show which returns this September.
Mike’s experience covers roleplaying as well as conventional wargaming, and he has a particular passion for worldbuilding, including a D&D realm that has been running for more than 40 years! He’s also a great fan of Lardy games, in particular Dux Britanniarum and I Ain’t Been Shot Mum which he recommends for those of us who still can’t quite cope with Chain of Command! Mike also reminded me of the huge resources provided by The Perfect Captain—though the website has now gone, all the files can still be accessed via the Facebook group here.
A man with many talents that include being a multi-instrument musician, Mike is one of the powerhouses behind the public face of the hobby here in the UK who has also ventured online as a blogger (visit his Trouble At T’Mill page), was a long-time contributor to the much-missed Meeples & Miniatures show and is a podcaster in his own right with The Miller’s Tale.
Next time you see him at a show in his blue shirt, say hello!
Henry
